Architecture is usually defined by the presence of conditions– the conditions, for example, of the bounding walls, the prescribed function and circulation of the space.
This, however, is challenged by the architecture of Tadao Ando which is defined by the conditions of absence. In this particular building he creates a void which takes the shape that resembles a cross, a religious person might see a cross but a non religious person might see it as just a opening in the wall. So he uses negation in the space to give meaning to it and only exists in the presence of light.
I went to the mountains to get inspired.
Despite of being a designer, I and colors don’t seem to get along. It is extremely difficult to decide what color palette would suit the project, I am guilty of always ending up with white and greys. I am comfortable with them.
I am re-decorating a friend’s room in a couple of weeks from now. I was in the Himalayas when I got this job. I certainly took the opportunity to get inspired by all the natural shared of blues that I witnessed.
Nature truly is the answer.
PS. I shall share the photos of the room soon. (once it is done!)
“I used to look so beautiful”, she said, while turning the pages of the photo album of her dancing days.
I often wonder about the idea of Beauty. Is it really subjective?
I think she is beautiful, she is as beautiful as she was when she was a girl with the youthful smile and pink cheeks. Her beauty is defined by the years she has lived. The sun spots on her cheeks reminds me how beautifully she comforted her patients in the scorching sun of summer. The grey hair are the sign of the wisdom she shares. Her (now) weak arms are warmer than ever, they comforted her children – now they comfort her of their absence. Her wrinkled skin carries stories of hardships and happiness. Her beauty is about the fact that she has lived – she lived a long life, she lived through loneliness and broken dreams, she not only survived but she created life, she spread smiles.
Her beauty is about the dreams that she fiercely dreams about – her beauty is the plan she has for the unseen future. The nostalgia of her youth is her confidence.
